Issue 2: Strengthening your organisation's security mindset

by Smart Grid Forums on March 2, 2021

Cyberweekly No.2

Welcome to CyberAware Weekly, your weekly reminder that in the emerging world of the hyperconnected grid constructive paranoia is a good thing! This week we tackle the issue of establishing a ‘Security Mindset’ across the organisation and uncover effective ways to strengthen this mindset for power grid technical workforces.

As one utility cybersecurity leader I spoke with this week stated: “if we can get the substation design teams to work with a security mindset, we will create more cyber-resilient designs from the outset, minimise duplication of work between the two teams, reduce associated costs and speed up the roll-out of digital substations.”

Whilst the tangible business benefit are clear, we know that engineering teams are trained to think about how things can be made to work, while the security mindset involves thinking about how things can be made to fail. And therein lies the challenge!

This week we test the security mindset of power grid technical workforces through a short anonymous survey, the results of which will be shared with you in next week’s issue. To participate please click here!

In the meantime, please enjoy this week’s selection of news, views and resources below, and feel free to share this newsletter with colleagues in other departments, and peers in other organisations.
